The road on Princess St. between Notre Dame Ave, & McDermot Ave. consisted of peat moss & sand.Shirley Kowalchuk explained that by using this mixture for the movie, the material would not stick to wagon wheels, etc. in the event of rain.

Notice the overhanging wooden awnings on this store front on Princess St. -- What was the function of the slanted section about 2-3 feet [0.7 m to 1 m] above the sidewalk & between the two left vertical posts?
